The Colonial I was the first ship of the Colonial line. They were constructed in the North African Shipyards specifically for the purpose of ferrying crew and materials needed to construct the Lunar Research Station. The first one was launched in 2004, and was the world's largest spaceship.

Colonial Is launched directly from Earth's surface; their hulls were covered in wing surface and booster rockets, while their main engines were massive kerosene/liquid oxygen rockets that consumed fifty tons of fuel a second. They were difficult to control inside Earth's atmosphere, and 1/3 Colonial I landings resulted in some form of damage to the ship.

The faults led to the design of the Colonial II, first introduced in 2014; by no later than that point, all Colonial Is were presumably removed from service.
